As part of our Science learning, we have been looking at healthy active lifestyles, more specifically what we eat and how much exercise we do.
This morning, Miss Shears asked us to collect as many wrappers from our snack and our lunch....strange we all thought, but we knew Miss Shears must have had one of her good ideas and needed our rubbish for it!!!!
When we all came back in from lunch, Miss Shears was so happy with the wrappers we had left for her, that she gave us a whole class reward.
We started to look at the 'Eat Well Plate' and what constitutes a healthy diet. We had some excellent discussions on our lunch and our dinner, as well as the importance of having a good breakfast to start our day off. We did all admit how we like to have a packet of crisps, a bar of chocolate or a pack of sweets, yet we understood how as long as we had these in moderation it was ok.
Our next task was to look at the different wrappers we had collected and we started to find out what each packet was telling us and why...……
We discussed sugars, saturated fat, unsaturated fat, carbohydrates, proteins, as well as how much water we should all drink every day.
After looking at each of the empty packets, Miss Shears challenged us to predict which item of food had the most sugar in and then which had the most fat. This was very interesting, and Miss Shears encouraged us to justify our choice with a reason.
It was such an interesting lesson, learning all about some of the food we eat. Our home learning for this week is to keep a food diary, and we are all looking forward to seeing the results from our findings.
Thanks for reading our blog :)
